How zip awning are built
Zip-track fabric guides
The fabric edge carries a welded zip that runs inside the lateral profile, so it cannot pull free in a gust. This is the difference between a zip screen and a conventional side awning on an exposed terrace.
Technical fabric options

Cassette and motorisation
The roll sits in a closed cassette that protects the fabric when retracted. Motorised with remote or app, with optional sun and wind sensors that retract automatically above a set threshold.

Fitted to a pergola, a façade or its own frame. The anchoring is specified from the substrate and the span so the guides stay parallel under tension.

Why the zip matters
The edge of a ZIP screen's fabric carries a zip that runs inside the side channels. The fabric stays tensioned and held along its full height: it does not flap or pull out, and it copes with gusts that would force you to retract an arm awning. That is why it works as a vertical enclosure on exposed terraces, pergolas and façades.
Fabrics: screen, opaque and blackout
Micro-perforated screen fabric filters sun and heat but lets you see out, the usual choice where there is a view. Opaque fabric gives full privacy from neighbours or the street. Blackout darkens completely. Fabric and width are what move the price most.
Where ZIP screens go

How ZIP screens handle the wind
Because the fabric is held in the side channels along its full height, a ZIP screen copes with gusts that would force you to retract an arm awning. Each screen still has a wind limit set by its width, fabric and fixings; a wind sensor raises it automatically before that limit is reached, which is why we recommend sensors on exposed terraces facing the Levante.
Care and lifespan
Technical screen fabrics are made for sun and salt air; rinse them with fresh water a few times a year and keep the side channels free of sand. Service and adjustments come from our Estepona workshop.
