Tensioned Retractable Pergolas on the Costa del Sol

Tensioned Pergola — CostaGlass

Tensioned pergolas cover the terrace with a waterproof technical canopy that retracts to open the sky and extends to protect from sun and rain. As a direct manufacturer and installer based in Estepona, we measure, build and fit every structure ourselves across the Costa del Sol.

Costa del Sol

Tensioned Pergola, made to measure

The lacquered aluminium frame carries a motorised PVC canopy. Open, you recover natural ventilation and a true outdoor feel. Closed, concealed gutters in the beams and posts drain rainwater in a controlled path so the terrace stays usable in the showers that are typical of this coast.

The structure can take integrated LED lighting in the beams and combines with glass curtains, guillotine glass or zip screens on the sides. That combination is what turns a summer shade into a four-season outdoor room for homes and hospitality.

We size the span, the anchoring (wall-mounted or free-standing) and the drive for the real exposure of the site — salt air, westerly or easterly wind — after a free survey. There are no fixed rates: the quote follows the dimensions, motorisation, lighting and any side enclosures you need.

Tensioned pergolas suit patios that want full open sky on clear days, restaurant terraces that need flexible shade, and pool-side living areas where a fixed roof would feel too closed. Each project is made to measure from our Estepona workshop.

Specification

How tensioned pergola are built

01

Motorised retractable canopy

The technical fabric runs on guided tracks and stacks or rolls clear of the opening, so the sky opens fully rather than only tilting. Drive by remote or wall control, with optional rain or wind sensors.

02

Integrated water drainage

Closed, perimeter gutters collect runoff and take it through posts or defined outlets. Sized on survey for the pitch and the local rainfall pattern so water does not pool on the fabric.

03

Structure sized for the site

Beam sections and post spacing follow the span and coastal wind load. Wall-mounted against a façade or free-standing on posts, with modules combined for larger patios.

04

Side enclosures

Glass curtains, guillotine glass or zip screens close the sides. Without them the pergola shades from above; with them it becomes a space that works most of the year on the Costa del Sol.

Closed, the technical canopy and integrated gutters are designed to drain rainwater and protect the terrace in typical Costa del Sol weather. It is not a hermetic fixed roof in extreme storms, but for everyday rain it keeps the space usable.

A tensioned pergola retracts a fabric canopy to open the sky fully. A bioclimatic pergola regulates adjustable aluminium louvres without clearing the whole roof. Choose tensioned when full open sky matters most; bioclimatic when you want fine control of shade and ventilation with the louvres in place.

Yes — it combines with glass curtains, guillotine glass or zip screens to enclose the sides and create a four-season space.

We do not publish fixed rates. The cost depends on the structure size and span, the canopy motorisation, sensors, integrated lighting and any side enclosures. We survey the terrace and provide a tailored, no-obligation quote.

Yes. We manufacture and install tensioned pergolas from our Estepona workshop across Marbella, Estepona, Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmádena, Málaga and the rest of the coast.
