With the louvres closed, rainwater drains through the profiles and posts; open, the terrace ventilates and receives controlled sun through the day. Many motorised models close automatically with a wind or rain sensor.
The anchored aluminium structure is built for the coastal climate, including salt air. It can be combined with glass curtains, guillotine glass or zip screens to create a true four-season space.

Motorised aluminium louvres
Extruded aluminium louvres rotate through their full range to trade shade for ventilation. Driven by remote, wall control or app, and integrable with compatible home automation.
Integrated water drainage
Closed, the louvres form a channel that carries rainwater into the perimeter beams and down through the posts, so the terrace stays usable in a shower rather than just shaded in sun.
Structure sized for the site
Post spacing and beam sections are calculated from the span and the local wind load. Free-standing or wall-mounted, with modules combined for larger terraces.
Side enclosures
Glass curtains, guillotine glass or zip screens close the sides, which is what turns a pergola from a summer structure into a space that works most of the year.

How a bioclimatic pergola works
The roof is made of aluminium louvres that rotate on their axis. Open, they let light and air through; angled, they shade without blocking ventilation; closed, they form a continuous roof. Rain runs along the louvres into a perimeter gutter and down inside the posts, so it never drips onto the terrace.
Louvres can be turned by hand crank or by motor, with optional rain and wind sensors. Motorisation is what moves the price most, between a manual and a motorised pergola.
Closing the sides with glass or ZIP screens
The roof handles sun and rain; the sides handle the wind. With frameless glass curtains on the exposed sides, the pergola becomes a bright enclosed room usable all year. With a ZIP screen on the west side you get shade and privacy in the afternoon without closing in.
Wall-mounted or freestanding
A wall-mounted pergola fixes to the façade on one side and stands on posts on the other, the usual choice for terraces and penthouses. Permits and communities
A pergola changes how the building looks from outside, so in a community of owners you will usually need the community's agreement, and some town halls ask for a notification or a permit.
